Linux CAN Driver for the Intel 82527 CAN controller

We modified and enhanced the can4linux Linux CAN driver to re-introduce support for the Intel 82527 CAN controller. Support for this CAN controller had been dropped by the can4linux project when moving from the early LLDK based drivers to version 2.0 in favour for the more popular SJA1000 CAN controller.

Our modified can4linux version with Intel 82527 CAN controller support can be download here:

Online can4linux driver version 3.3-2 with Intel support (Linux Kernel 2.4 and 2.6)
Online can4linux driver version 3.1 with Intel support (Linux Kernel 2.4 only)

We tested these versions on a SBS PC7 compact DIN-rail mounted industry PC.

can4linux is open source and is released under the GPL license.

Please visit the project's homepage for information about can4linux and to download the original project source code.

Background

The can4linux Project started in 1997 and the first architecture by Clausi Schröter was based on the Linux Device Driver Kit LDDK from the Linux Lab Project. However the LDDK based drivers are no longer maintained. The last available version is 1.4.

Derived from this driver Heinz-Jürgen Oertel of port GmbH developed a can4linux version based on a new architecture. He is the current maintainer of the project.

Though the early LDDK based drivers originally supported Intel 82527 CAN controller, the 2.x series offered only support for the Philips SJA1000 CAN controller. We used the can4linux 3.1 code base to re-introduce support for the Intel 82527 CAN controller.
